The first ever joint trip away of Braeside and Normanhurst schools was a great success. All the children and teachers enjoyed a week of skiing in Italy, Cessana. Most of the children who went on the trip had very little experience of skiing, but that didn’t stop anyone having a fantastic time. As early as day two all of the children were able to stand on their skis. We were very lucky to have had excellent skiing conditions. With a fresh coat of snow every now and again the children were able to enjoy their skiing, but also loved playing in the snow during their lunch breaks. The teachers enjoyed watching the children having snow fights, making snow angels, building an igloo and digging a tunnel.
As well as skiing the children also had two nights out on the trip. The first was to have delicious Italian pizza in the nearby town and the second outing was to have crepes, both of which went down very well. During the other evenings the children enjoyed spending time together playing cards, pool and having a quiz.
One of the skiing highlights for the children were when they were able to stand with one foot in Italy and one foot in France higher up in the mountains. The ski school instructors were pleased with the children’s endurance and all the children who were skiing made quick progress and found themselves on the blue and red slopes within days. During the prize giving on the last night all the children were complimented on their behaviour and the respect they showed the instructors.
